Department of Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in academic year 2003-04. It is one of the premier department of BIT with strong backup of highly qualified faculty specialized in core areas of Mechanical Engineering. The Department aims to prepare its students for a career in various areas of Government, Public & Private Sector like DEFENCE SERVICES, RAILWAYS, SHIPING CORPORATION, MERCHANT NAVY, ORDINANCE FACTORIES, IRRIGATION, DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITIES, ONGC, GAIL, BHEL, HAL, BARC, DRDO, BALCO, NALCO, HINDALCO, L&T, COAL INDIA, MARUTI, HONDA, MAHINDRA & MAHINDRA, TISCO, TCS, INFOSYS, WIPRO, ABB & NTPC etc. The Department also motivates and provides guidance to its students for higher education and assists them to prepare for the examinations like GATE, GRE, GMAT, CAT, MAT & TOEFL etc. The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers Regular B.Tech (Mechanical Engineering) and M.Tech (Mechanical Engineering) with in intake of 120 students and 18 students respectively.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is well equipped with various state-of-the-art laboratories such as Automobile Engineering Lab, CAD/CAM Lab, Computer Aided Engineering Graphics Lab, Engineering Mechanics Lab, Fluid Mechanics & Machinery Lab, Heat & Mass Transfer Lab, Machine Design Lab, Machine Drawing Lab, Manufacturing Science Lab, Material Science & Testing Lab, Measurement & Metrology Lab, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Lab, Theory of Machines Lab, Thermodynamic Lab, Workshop etc. The department of Mechanical Engineering focuses to impart the comprehensive knowledge to the students on the core subject like Thermodynamics & Applied Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics & Machinery, Heat & Mass Transfer, IC Engines & Compressors, Refrigeration & Air conditioning, Machine Design, Strength of Materials, Manufacturing Technology, Workshop Practices, CAD, CAM & Automobile Engineering. The Department also outsources short-term special training programs on Auto CAD, Pro-E, Nx7.5 (Unigraphics), CATIA and ANSYS etc. For the purpose of empowering and rendering the students up to date on contemporary technologies & applications in demand. The Department provides an opportunity to its students to interact with the industry experts by calling industry people to deliver guest Lectures in the department from time to time. The Department not only encourages but also provides technical as well as financial assistance to its students to participate in workshop/seminar/conferences & inter college technical competitions held at National level by renowned agencies.
